Cycle guards is one of those jobs generally at the end of the car build and a job that most do not want to pay much for, yet you will have all these ideas on what you want and no idea how much time it takes to get it done. Hence why I go into some detail here as I cannot be on the phone all day and I know I am not able to meet everyones needs or expectations.

Cycle guards hand formed and fitted.

I can hand roll and shape Hot Rod Cycle guards in any style to fit the tyre and the tyre brackets.  I can make them in steel or Alloy, however alloy is the best as it is light weight so there is less stress on the cycle guard brackets and less flapping of the guards like bird wings as you pound over corrigations in the highway, as there is less reciprocating mass.

I can make simple flat style guards, they are the cheapest as they require the least amount of work. Or I can make older period looking plain guards.  Fancy ridges down the middle and ridged edges all add up to more time do them, they are harder to tweak the shape once the ridge or edges are in place, actually they can be a real pain. There are some fibre glass models around that are better bang for your money if you want that ridge look but I do not sell them.

The guards on the black model A bucket in the pics has fibre glass guards fitted to it that I bought.  There are a few back yard suppliers of fibre glass guards on Facebook and the internet, I used our cycle guard bracket kits to fit them to the car.  The main thing with ready made guards is will their shape follow the outer diamter of your tyre + the room [extra radius space] that the cycle guard bracket takes up. And will they be too wide or not wide enough? This is generally why I just build them to fit the brackets once the cycle guard brackets are made.  It really is a teadious job and a lot of folk don't want to spend that time and money on them so I don't get involved other than to supply a metal bracket kit that these folks can have a go at fabrictation and save the labour costs.  You can always just roll some thin alloy sheet over the tyres you have on the car, or an old oil drum, truck tyre or what ever you have laying around to make cheap cycle guards using our brackets.

NOTE: Our rear cycle guard brackets have a small bracket component that they bolt to, and that needs to be tig welded to the diff. So if the diff is painted I need to grind the paint off to do the job. Clamp on units do not work to well, they rattle loose all the time so I will not do them.

There is a lot of pulling apart and re-assembly of diffs or front ends when it comes to fabricating the cycle guards brackets, this takes up a lot of time.  Shaping the bracket loops for shaped [not flat] cycle gaurds, is tedious work to get them sitting square to the tyre and follow the tyre diameter. Tack welding the brakets in place, pulling it apart to weld, bolting it back up for the next piece to tack in, repeat and so it goes, etc. etc.  So if you can not see the value in this work then I am happy not to do them.

The guards in the pics are the legal coverage of the tyre to get through rego.  I live on a dirt road so I like them long at the back anyway so as not to flick rocks up at me in the car.  Shorter or smaller guards you may get away with for a while until someone in authority who knows pings you on it, then you have to change them.

When I set up a chassis to run a hot rod hiboy style with no fenders, I usually make the diff wider than I would have for the same car if it were to run stock fenders.  This is to provide room for the cycle guard brackets so they do not hit the body.  If you do not have enough room between the tyre and body, changes have to be made to the diff or wheel offsets to get the space.  If it looks too tight and you are not willing to make changes I will decline the job.

One thing I have learnt is that when you stand back and look at cycle guards it is real easy to get a shit looking job. This is because your wheels and tyres are perfectly round and sit nice and square to the ground. So anything associated with the wheels need to be that good as well. Even on a budget build they need to be well executed in my opinion, because everyone will ask who did the crap job and remember them, I don't want to be that guy.

What we DO NOT do
1.  I do not supply guards ready to mail out. There are too many different tyre diameters to consider, it is limiting to have a one size fit all mud guard that is light weight, looks nice, fits well and lasts.  I have enough other work to do than get buried in the to and fro from a customer not happy with the fit. Go and buy some off the shelf units and fit them you will see what I mean, even the fibre glass ones on my model A bucket in the pics I am not excited about.

2. I do not make guards without your car and or tyres and brackets here in my workshop. I am selling skilled labour not just mud guards.

3. If you decide to purchase a cycle guard bracket kit, great, but just realise you are now in charge of the job and I can't build them for you over the phone. So if you can't use a tape measure, can't weld and or you do not have a fabrication skill set, then find a mate who does and work in with them and take your time.
(yes sorry I get a lot of stupid over the phone you have no idea)

4. I don't do impatience. Generally speaking I am pretty booked up well ahead.
(yes sorry I get a lot of that too )

What we can do
1. I can fit guards you have bought and use our cycle guard bracket kits and fit them to your car. However if the guards you bought are too heavy, wrong diameter, generally won't work too well or what ever, I will probably decline the job becasue you and I will never be happy with them.

2. I can fit old period motorcycle steel guards that you may have picked up to classic cars that run narrow classic wheels and tyres.

Hopefully now you have made a decision on a way to move forward, if you think I can help then text me.

This is not a product - It is an example of our fabrication skills.

Price is indicative per guard, it is a lot of work to get the gaurds sitting right on their newly fabricated brackets.  A lot of tweaking and manipulation is required to get them sitting and looking right, it takes what it takes.
